Notes: H-21 Shawnee
Piasecki (Vertol) H-21 Shawnee, Workhorse, Army Aviation, Military Aircraft, VTOL, Helicopter, Aircraft, Whirlybird, Chopper, Rotary WingThe H-21 Shawnee is a tandem rotor chopper that was designed in the 1950's for the US Army. It was also used by the French Navy as both an attack helicopter and for transport missions. The West German and Canadian armies procured this type for supply and support roles. The H-21 saw extensive use during the beginning of the Vietnam War. Its piston engines made this a relatively reliable aircraft though made obsolete by the time turbines were used to power the new line of helicopters that were introduced by the mid 60's.
