Fractals: Mandelbrot and Julia Sets by Wernher Krutein

What is a Fractal? A fractal is a kind of repeating structure displaying properties of self similarity. This means that you can explore a Fractal shape into virtualy any depth of magnification and you will come across many similar shapes of the original. Fractals were discovered by Benoit B. Mandelbrot who decided to name this bold new area of mathematics "Fractals". He chose that word from the Latin word fractus, which means "to break". Some of the most typical fractals are: flowers, water, clouds, trees, waves, smoke, flames, lightning, leaves, galaxies, etc.
