About the Douglas DC-10 This long-range airliner, designed as a competitor to the Boeing 747, first flew in 1970. The predecessor to the MD-11, this aircraft has a unique engine configuration with two under the wing and one going straight through the tail. This airliner is used on transcontinental and intercontinental routes.

Length- 182 ft. 1 in.
Height- 58 ft. 1 in.
Wing area- 3,968 sq. ft.
Cabin length- 136 ft.
Passenger seats in the Continental configuration- 288.
First certified for flight July 29, 1971

Powerplant: 3 General Electric Cfa6-50. turbofans each rated at 51,000 lbs of thrust.

Fuel Capacity: 248,000 lbs. (Enough fuel to drive a car around the world 40 times, averaging just 25 miles a gallon)

Range 6,504 nautical miles with reserves Continental models capable of takeoff weights up to 580,500 lbs

Maximum operating speed- .88 Mach
