About the
Boeing 777
When it comes to range and passenger capacity, Boeing offers airlines a family of 777s to choose from in a variety of ranges and seating capacities. The first 777 was delivered to United Airlines on May 17, 1995.
The Boeing 777 is one of the largest twinjet commercial airliners. The 777 is a completely new design meant to fill the gap between the smaller
767
and the larger
747
. It is Boeing's first fly-by-wire, or non-hydraulic control design with highly advanced, very powerful engines giving it a cruising speed of 905 km/hr (565 mph).
The initial model of the 777-200 flies 375 passengers 4,630 nautical miles in two-class comfort. An increased gross weight model will carry 305 passengers 7,230 nautical miles in the three-class configuration preferred for long, intercontinental routes.
More varients of the family are envisioned that will carry up to 550 passengers or fly farther than today's 747-400. Presently in the planning stages, and under study since this spring are four potential new 777 models, two heavier weight 200X versions and two shortened versions of the 777-300X. (One 777-100X model is planned to have a range of 8,420 nautical miles.
The Boeing 777 family will redefine efficiency, flexibility and comfort well into the next century.
