About the BAe/Avro 146

The BAe-146 short-range jet is the smallest four engine plane of it's kind. It' wings are mounted high on the fuselage, it has a massive fin to T-tail and has a distinctive profile. It's numerous versions carry passengers or freight and all use the Avro RJ name, a subsidiary of British Aerospace.

It first flew in 1981 after eight years on the drawing table. Using modern fan-jet engines, it's quiet take off and landing made this a popular design for the ailing British aerospace industry.

BAe-146's have a range of 2730 km (1710 mi) at a cruising speed of 763 km/hr (477 mph) and can be found in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas. It's wingspan is 26.3m (86.3 ft) and length is 28.6m (93.6 ft).
