About the Airbus A320

This later version of the European-built Airbus is the first commercial airliner to use "fly by wire" control replacing conventional hydraulics with electronics. Along with the Concorde, it has no control columns or wheels in the cockpit. It was designed jointly by a consortium of companies from France, Germany, the United Kingdom and Spain and was first flown in 1987. The A-320 was built as a direct competitor to the Boeing 737 series. It has done very well in biting into Boeings market share in the single aisle aircraft category.

The greater fuel capacity from previous Airbus A300 and A310 gives the A320 a 5290 km (3310 mi) range at a cruising speed of 842 km/hr (526 mph). It carries 150-179 passengers and is 37.5 m (123 ft) long with shorter and longer versions; the A319 and A321, respectively.
