About the Airbus A-300 This airliner built by the highly subsidized European Airbus Company first flew in 1972. Airbus was formed by France, the United Kingdom, Spain and Italy in 1966 to avoid domination by the US aircraft industry. It was the first jointly-built jet by the European community designed to compete with the American manufacturers, McDonnell Douglas and Boeing. If not supported by such an incredible subsidy from their respective governments, this airliner would never have been a commercial success.

The A-300 could carry 247-375 passengers at 907 km/hr (567 mph) and first served high-density flights like routes between London and Paris. It could also be used to carry up to 55,000 kg (121,300 lb.) in freight. It has a wide body and two turbofan engines. The original version has a fuselage length of 45.1m (177.4 ft) and wingspan of 44.9m (147.3 ft).
