This aggressive predators eats frogs & small fish. This lungfish is native to West & South Africa and resides in swamps and small rivers, it can reach 6.5" when fully grown. It has a heart with 4 chambers and breathes air when water dries up. It Burrows in soft mud and curls up in a chamber lined with mucus and it leaves an opening that allows breathing through its mouth. When it cacoons like this, its metabolic rate slows and the energy neccssary to survive comes from breakdown of the muscle tissue. It may survive for a maximum of 4 years but usually only few months are necessary.

The males guard newly hatched young up to 2 mos. Its larvae have external gills that are reabsorbed during metamorphosis.
